Fiancé or Proposed Civil Partner visa
The Fiancé(e) or Proposed Civil Partner visa is for engaged partners of British citizens or persons settled in the UK who wish to marry or enter into a civil partnership within 6 months of arriving in the UK.Your visa will be granted for 6 months.
The applicants frequently confuse the Fiancé visa with a Marriage Visitor visa. Marriage visitor visa allows you to enter the UK to marry but you would need to leave the UK after the marriage takes place. It is not allowed to switch from this visa to another visa type whilst you are in the UK.

Fiancé or Proposed Civil Partner visa allows you to remain in the UK after the marriage to apply for a Spouse visa. When you are in the UK on the Fiancé or Proposed Civil Partner visa, you do not have the right to work in the UK until your spouse visa is granted.
To qualify for a Fiancé or Proposed Civil Partner visa:
- Your partner is:
- British, or
- holds Indefinite Leave to Remain, or
- has refugee status, or
- is an EU national with Settled or Pre-Settled Status, or
- is a non-EU national with Settled Status;
- have a Turkish Businessperson visa or Turkish Worker visa
Furthermore:
- You are both over the age of 18;
- You have met in person;
- You are both free to marry or enter into a civil partnership;
- Your relationship is genuine and you intend to live together permanently in the UK;
- You intend to marry or enter into a civil partnership within six months of your arrival in the UK;
- Any previous relationships have broken down permanently;
- You will be adequately maintained in the UK without recourse to public funds;
- There is adequate accommodation for you and any dependents;
- You speak and understand English to the required level of at least A1.
Financial requirements
The financial requirement for the Fiancé visa is the same as for the Spouse/Unmarried Partner visa. To satisfy the financial requirement, you need to evidence that your sponsor has £29,000 gross yearly income. Applicants must provide specific (i.e. mandatory) evidence in order to prove that they meet the financial requirement.
